Half of me says purple & pink big flowers adorable...oh and very affordable.
The other half says: Put in a Hanna Montana CD and redisover what it feels like to be a preteen while buying a cat and never ever ever having a man in your bedroom while it looks like that.
So in response to my insanity of taking down my bed...I did something else impulsive and bought a new one.
I didn't go crazy I got a good sale. Of course I didn't exactly have the money for it but eh I technically had enough, I will just have to rob my "house" fund. That money its supposed to be for home emergencies, and in my book this qualifies. The picture isn't very good of it, the bedspread it hideous and I never understood the point of a bed skirt on a bed with side rails but believe me its going to look good.
I'm now going to lay down, I've felt like crap all day. I must have eaten something that didn't agree with me yesterday.
Today was a good day. I'm virtually stress free. I worked a day today and spend my evening window shopping and feeling up a mac at best buy. I wasn't going to buy one...it wasn't my intention. Lets face it though I've wanted one for the past 3yrs and its time. My little dell barely has any keys left which is significantly affecting my typing speed. After once again seeing the beloved aluminum macbook, it was all I could do to contain myself and prevent an embarrassing public display of affection and love. A short car ride home and handing over virtual wads of cash to apple to give me a product to hold all my virtual stuff.
I've completely abandoned the vacation idea. I'm vacationing in wonderful Rochester, MN in a house (my house) that has been long neglected by too much studying. I measured all the shelving in my closet and browsed the ikea site to pick the perfect boxes for each room then calculated how many boxes would fit on each shelf (I even made diagrams of each closet on note cards) its an illness I know. I'm so excited for a week long of spring cleaning and hopefully once I haul all the crap out of my house I can actually enjoy the nice stuff I've purchased since having a real job. I can't wait to splurge on a label maker!
I imagine many a rendezvous trip to goodwill and the dump. Oh and I'm officially old because I'm pretty convinced I will be picking up price stickers and organizing things in boxes to put in the garage for a summer garage sale.
I talked to jsp, I made plans with Rory to have a double date for brunch on Sunday while I'm in the cities so we can meet each other's beaus. I talked with Alice who gave me a play by play of the tumultuous preparations of some Asian noodles that ended up horrible. Oh and I crocheted.
So my day may not have been glamorous, hipster-esc, or by any stretch of the imagination exciting, but to me it was the perfect day.
I went on a shopping spree tonight for my upcomming weekend car-time here and in my usually spirt of unsolicited music advice I give you these jems...

In other exciting news the lovely miss amanda palmer will be comming back to the states and touring with Vox Vermilion (Who have been on my too download list for oh so terribly long). Unfortunately the only tour date during my vacay time will be in the middle of north carolina...oh well maybe she will have more tour dates later (one can always dream).
Oh and little miss insomniac over here got a prescription for ambien...but Im too scared to take it because I dont want to wake up with chicken bones in my bed or my car wrapped around a telephone poll. I figure I will take it when am desperate.
Nothing burns a hole in my pocket quite like Christmas money. Since it’s a gift I can't pay bills with it or do anything responsible like take the dogs to the vet to get their shots. Nope this money is to be blown as quickly and irresponsibly as possible. Normally a large percentage of my x-mas cash gets spent on new years eve bar and travel expenses but since it seems I will be spending my first ever new years in Rochester (I have lived here 5yrs) and since its a three paycheck month I have more disposable cash than I'm ever used to having.
Seeing as I'm not a save it for a rainy day kinda gal I got to thinking. I could either buy half a computer and put the rest on a credit card OR I could buy a wii. The wii won since the computer is going to be tuition reimbursement with no tuition to turn around and pay gift to myself.
Now I am not a video game person. I didn't have Nintendo as a kid and I've never beat any of the super Mario brothers although I did play them at my friends house. I had been quite happy with the status quo until a bit over a year ago I met my pal guitar hero. I freakin love guitar hero. I have played it for up to 6hrs in a single sitting.
When I realized the perfect gift to myself I had to have it and I wanted it now. So after work I went to Wal-Mart...sold out, target...sold out, other Wal-Mart and other target...sold out...both best buys...you guessed it sold out.
Sigh. I was disappointed. All the running around had made me loose my oomph and I hate...SIMPLY hate calling around to stores to see if something is in stock. Alice however sweet beloved kind Alice took on my mission. Located a wii in her area purchased it for me and will deliver it tomorrow. She even got the extra controller with some game that came with it. To anyone and everyone who will enjoy my wii in the future you have Alice to thank for it.
Rejuvenated in my excitement I set out to researching games. Guitar hero was a given (that was basically the reason I wanted the damn thing in the first place) but a brief late night encounter at Wal-Mart with Alice, Curious and Bag lead me to realize that guitar hero world tour band edition is the game that really brings people together (cue cheesy music and a group hug).
Not that I have parties often....okay ever. But occasionally I have 2 people over which is enough for a band and everyone can play at once without having to take turns (I hate sharing). Once I learned you can play one player on any of the options (guitar, drums or mic) I had to have it. My conveniently located (and open at 11:30pm) Wal-Mart had one in stock. I bought it. Then proceeded to unpack it, assemble it, and place it neatly next to my TV.
It taunts me sitting there. Looking so fun yet I can not yet unleashing its magically joyful addictive qualities. Tomorrow my pretty we will make beautiful music together.
P.S. Its past 3am and I have to be at work at 9am...why is it whenever I have to have my tushy at work in the morning I go to sleep even later than on a regular night?
Vacation has been progressing nicely. I got to Milwaukee in time for us to make it to the french bistro for dinner. Of course what I ordered wasn't exactly my taste but the creme brule was to die for!
Sunday was spent with my family visiting my grandma, grandpa, two aunts and my little cousins. Kinda sad (because my grandfather is quite ill) but he was having a good day and it was just good to have a visit with everyone. On the way home we got trapped in a snow storm on country road which was not at all fun but then again I didn't have to drive so whatever.
Monday was shopping day with mom, we went to woodfield which was pretty much a bust but then moved on to old navy, nordstrom rack, filens basement, marshalls, tjmaxx and of course beloved ikea and had much more success.
I found the most perfect tv stand at ikea. Its technically a small shelf with glass doors but it will so work. I cant take it home on the train and didn't want to pay shipping so Alice and Rory will be forced to track down furniture parts at ikea with me...well at least it will be fun for me.
Today was a lazy day. My mom and I went out for lunch and are spending the afternoon putting up the christmas tree and other fun christmas decorations. So there is your mini-update.
I didn't go to sleep Thursday night, I came home from work did my normal avoidance of anything productive save a smidge bit of backing for Saturday's impending departure. Then at 4:16am I rolled out of my driveway and set off for walmart. Now this little miss prissy from prissy town won't even go to walmart on a Saturday let alone black Friday but watching my 12'" t.v. that was bought on a spur of the moment post breakup lack of bedroom TV. After the new couch I moved the tiny TV into the living room which was at best tolerable. I wanted...ahem needed a HDTV a flat screen to match my impeccable style.
I arrived within 3minutes and headed into the TV line. My objective was at 32" flat screen for the low low price of $388 and wouldn't you know it just 2hours later yours truly was the proud owner of the second to late one! And I didn't even get a black eye!
Here it is unpacked and in its natural environment. I really need a t.v.stand the makeshift night stand just isn't going to cut it since my DVD player is laying on the floor...Bonus point What movie am I watching on my new T.V. Alice no cheating since I talked to you just prior to starting the flick.
A bonus to being an only child and a spinster is your parents aren't distracted by other people or grandchildren and therefore still take great joy in lavishing you with numerous bundles brightly wrapped presents. Curious about what made it on the list this year?

Oh today (well yesterday since its after midnight) is Rosa's birthday. She celebrated her 4th birthday with and extra cup of food, treats, an evening of tennis, roughhousing with bellie and an after dinner nap.
Happy date day everyone! JSP will be picking me up at 7:30 so before long I much launch into my pre-date rituals. It began last night, one must always paint the nails the night before because if you get stray nail polish on your cuticles it will come off in the shower the next morning. Shockingly enough my nails are actually at perfect length and my cuticles aren't torn and bleeding so everything is good on that front. The monster zit on my nose which erupted just a few days ago has simmered down to nothing more than a a little smooth pink patch of skin and will easily be invisible with a dab of concealer.
Now the question of the ages what to wear. Since I have no idea what said date day will hold I must look nice but casual. A genre of dress that is most difficult for me. With Alice's guidance dark jeans were chosen for the pants, with nice black shoes to dress them up. After cleaning out my closet a couple weeks ago (like 5 garbage bags of clothes worth) I decided it was a trip to Macy's for the shirt. Where I found a thin black turtleneck sweater with short-ish sleeves. Its well fitting and shows of the girls without looking like one intends to do so :) The perfect plan. I will be taking along my bright blue glasses should I need to see anything from a distance.
The the other decision. The date perfume. Normally I have euphoria by Calvin Klein as my stand-by for such occasions...its a sexy-ish sent. However I've been out of my favorite sent insolence for so long that I don't think I can resist wearing that one. It's much more me anyway.
Well I am off to pluck my eyebrows! Wish me luck tonight.
Today is a happy day, yes its annual new glasses day. Belmont and Rosa killed my black everyday pair and my purple ones are all bent up due to a 3month temporary misplacement under my bed. After much deliberation I decided on these two frames. Oslo Frame by Etina Barcelona. If I can't travel to Spain I mine as well purchase overpriced designer glasses from them. And aren't they super cute. I love to color, true I cant wear them with everything but with a black shirt and jeans these will be yow-zer! And aren't the sides totally cute?! I originally looked at a similar pair that were bigger up front and had wider sides this is much more flattering on an Ava. I'm officially nerdy-chic.
I know you are worried about me wearing the above favored pair and clashing with my wardrobe which is filled with color. Have no fear my pets I present to you my neutral pair the Alice frame by Furla. The picture isn't the best, or the right color but its all I can find. My pair is black and the sides look much cooler as they are black with a a white background. Yeah the picture sucks but trust me they are every so fetch.
It started with the couch...but now I have decided I need another dog gate, a coffee table, throw pillows, area rug, wine bar (to use as a TV stand) a new TV and window blinds. Offtah. First things first the new pillows. I present to you spoils of TJ Maxx. The square ones have this weird pleating thing on the front which I don't particularly care for so I'm just going to have the backs showing. I was worried they would go with my wall color but they are actually very close to my "neutral" purple.
Now I wasn't planning on buying a rug this second but I have a little problem with spending hours...upon hours browsing crap on amazon. I found this rug and have been slightly obsessed with it for the past 24hours. First of all it isn't some cookie-cutter fake oriental rug which just isn't my style. Also it would fit in the room really well. The purple is the color of my walls, the Burgundy is the color of my picture set, the green is the color of the hallways and entry (both of which are visible from the living room, and the leaves and vines even are similar to a wall candle holder thing I have. I have concerns that everyone else in the world will think its horrible though so I am opening this purchase up to my readers...please vote in the poll below.
My house smells like dog. I've replaced almost all the soft surfaces in the upstairs of my house to try and win the battle of the dog hair. The only ones that remain are my bedspread and my beloved old living room set.
It was lovely. Now it has been chewed up, and nested in. Dog hair interwoven into the fabric so it is impossible to clean. Oh and it smells...a lot. I avoid inviting people over to my house because of the sad state of this furniture and I quite simply can't take it anymore.
It was boredom that lead to furniture browsing. Just to see whats out there so I can be prepared to spend my tax refund the moment it arrives. I'm very picky about furniture and never in a million years did I think I would find the perfect couch. But there it was and it was and CHEEP! It was 35% off! How could I resist? I thought it over for a couple days and today with my previously paid off credit card I charged the sucker. I just couldn't pass up such a deal. Its pretty its modern and although it looks horridly uncomfortable its actually very squishy.
Of course there had to be a complication. Normally when I order furniture it takes months to get in there is always some delay or they ordered the wrong color or something. Anyway they had it in their warehouse in stock and it will be here Saturday!
So what am I going to do with my stinky dog furniture? I cleaned out a space in the garage, I can deal with it when I move. That is of course if I can get the furniture physically out of the living room. I remember that being a real bitch when I had to vacate my upper level for the new floors. These couches don't really like to fit through doorways.
Also I was too cheep to pay the $50 dollar deliver fee for the new couch so I'm going to try and cram it in the back and of my schminivan...and I don't really have anyone to help me on Saturday. This should be interesting.
A couple weeks ago I set out on an endeavor for new jeans. I went to the same place I bought my beloved old jeans. Got the same style, length and size and then another one size smaller. My old pair were a little big but I didn't know if this was because of their age or because I lost a smidge of weight.
I started with the larger size because I wanted to avoid the mental distress of not fitting into the smaller ones. I tugged on the jeans and sucked in to close them. I couldn't breathe and was slightly worried the button might fly off and break the full length mirror in front of me....it was a miracle it didn't crack just reflecting the sight of me in these too tight jeans...think muffin top.
I took off the jeans...they must be miss labeled. No they weren't. Back on the sales floor I picked up two more pairs in the next two sizes. Size one up fit...snuggly but doable, two sizes up fit perfectly. Sigh.
I'm not one to get all bent out of shape about sizes but really? How is it possible I've lost 13lbs and gone up 2 well actually 4 sizes (since its only even numbers)? I took home my new pair and held it up to the old ones. The new "bigger" jeans were actually an inch SMALLER in the waist!
I soon learned that these jeans took the word "stretch" to the extreme. I put on these jeans straight from the dryer and they fit perfectly. Look at the picture taken only 5hours after I first put them on. Yeah its hard to appreciate the scale on here but that's held out a good 6 inches.
I was very excited to see Across the Universe and went to the movie shortly after its release. It was O.K. and not nearly as wonderfully splendiferious as I had hoped after the kick-ass trailer that has been shoved down my throat for months. The only thing I can say is I left saying well will never see this movie again but the soundtrack is awesome I have to have it. Well flash forward to today where I finally got around to putting it on my i-pod plugged it into my Bose speakers and prepared to be moved by the majesty.
My only moving moment was to walk back over to the speakers to turn down the volume and make an attempt to suffer through it. Quite frankly without the movie the music is boring. It drags on and has weird musical interludes that quiet frankly make no sense to me. I'm thinking perhaps the whole soundtrack together is just frankly too many Beatles covers in a row. Maybe if I throw some of my fave songs from the movie into my top rated list they will survive. Its my last ditch effort in trying to at least somewhat meet the unrealistic expectations I had for this movie.
It sucked don't buy it. I am a very logical thinker and do not have trouble with computer systems, setting clocks or general electronics. I couldnt get this think flash when I wanted to and out of the 140 pictures I took only 3 were clear. I even rested it on top of a book shelf to take a picture and it said it was unstable. Unless its earthquake season in Minnesota. For 279.99 before tax I expected a little more point and shoot to my point an shoot camera.
Also one of my main reasons for purchasing a new camera is that I wanted the feature where I could swap colors in my camera or take pictures in black and white with only one color remaining. I SPECIFICALLY asked for this feature and and my little ditzy sales lady said uh yes and it can...lalalal. Okay well no it can not do that as I sadly found out after reading the manual and cutting through my if this seal is broken you will have a 15% restocking fee.So I had had it after 3days together I was ready to call it quits and face the best buy return isle. One glass of wine for courage and I was on my way. I as plesantly as I could explained to the teenager behind the desk that I am not mad at them but I am very upset and Im sorry if I yell. I did not yell, and as long as I was willing to exchange the camera I did not have to pay the restocking fee.
Then I was escorted off to my camera section were a very nice gentelman helped me choose the camera that did the feature I wanted AND actually walked me through all the features best yet it used the same type of memory card as my old camera. So when all ways said and done I got a $80 refund to my credit card and a camera I actually wanted.
This was my one and ONLY positive customer service experience at best buy.
I love to swim. And by swim I mean being the annoying way to old 26year old at the deep end of the pool doing handstands and somersaults while people are trying to exercise at the healthy living center. The thought of buying a swimsuit is horrible to most overweight people but quite frankly I don't mind it and look forward to my yearly splurge of buying a suit prior to my beach friendly vacation. I have noticed in the past couple years that buying a suit is nearly impossible. I've gone to the stores and the plus size rack has about 4-suits
Plain black tankini
Neon Orange/Yellow one-piece with weird blocky parts
Horrid flowered one-piece monstrosity complete with ruffled skirt
weird hybrid of a fake speedo and sewn on leftover from the 80's short men's trunks
The only suit acceptable in public would be no.1 however since I happen to have a long torso the tank portion ends about 2-inches about the -ini...leaving the tummy roll exposed which is quite possibly the worst two inches that could be exposed. I was determined. I have two cute suits and one speedo type suit I didn't NEED a new suit by by god I wanted one. So I went to the thing that probably made me fat in the first place my friend the Internet and found Always for Meyes I'm plugging get over it.
Anyways bought a way cute suit...and a cute cover up. Now I just need a pair of ridiculous sunglasses complete with head scarf. I am cruise worthy.
Okay so I don't love taxes but I do love tax refunds. It has been my habit to use my federal refund for something responsible usually school or debt related. But the blessed state refund is to spent on things I really really want to a point of being a "need." For instance last year I spent my refund on a pair of black pearl and diamond earrings, a snow blower and a 30 Gig I-pod video to replace my way overtaxed and outdated pink mini.
I was very pleasantlysurprised this payday when checking my balance and finding the once a year 800+ thank you for being an American and overpaying bonus. I waited a whole 3 days before going crazy at Target today I spent $485.00 of my refund. The rest is going to a new scrub wardrobe and some nursing shoes so I can fit in with the cool kids at my new job.
$34.98: X-Tall Pet Gate with swinging door so I don't have to take the gate down every time I want to go downstairs or alternatively try to jump it and fall to my death a carpeted half flight below.
$249.99: Bose computer speaker system to replace my stereo from high school connected to my laptop by a tape on a cable (yes I am serious).
$7.98: Three Twelve packs of regular non-diet coke in a can
$149.00: Hover Floor Vac which vacuums wet and dry and can be used on all my upstairs flooring surfaces (wood, tile and linoleum).
$6.84: Hoover Floor Cleaning Solution
$4.79: Clorox Wipes
13.79 impulse bottle of wine after turning into the liquor store at a stop light.
Getting drunk, listening to loud crystal clear music and walking barefoot on my floors without crap getting stuck to my feet....Priceless!
What a successful shopping day. After searching for weeks….WEEKS today on a whim I stopped at lane Bryant to see if they had anything for my interviews on Tuesday and Friday. And I found it the PERFECT BLACK SUIT.The professional equivalent of the little black dress and it was in separates.Which meant I got to buy my jacket a size larger to fit my boobs major bonus. Also lane Bryant has extended there jeans sizing (where it is based on body type) to their dress pants…so for the first time EVER I have dress pants that fit and are long enough….even too long! The jacket is a smidge short (as is the style of the moment) but instead of looking stupid is just slightly flares out at the hips giving the pleasing illusion that I have a waist. It has a hidden hook closure so its very streamline. The pants are long, not too baggy and bootcut.I feel like I could kick some major ass in this suit.
Well since the pants were a smidge long this gave me the opportunity to buy a new pair of black shoes. All my nice ones are flats.Besides I had been coveting some but hadent purchased then because I had nowhere to wear them.Behold the most and comfortable black heels…a little retro 40’s.Its by this company called sofft is a sister brand to my beloved borns.
Then just because I was walking past the fragrance counter and my euphoria bottle broke I decided to get a new one…and since I was there I did a few wiffs in case something struck my fancy.Well the Macy’s lady was very helpful and using my two signature scents (insolence and euphoria) she made two recommendations. One I hated but the other I loved…so I picked it up.DKNY Delicious Night.
Today I embarked on the most horrid journey ever made for any female. My vacation festivities landed me 5lbs more than my already way overweight self. Pushing me to the point were my snug pants were unbearable to button. After a minor melt down Sunday night trying to find something to wear I went to the mall to buy bigger pants :(
I fortunately found some pants at JC Penny of all places. 50% off twill flat front khakis that are the perfect rise and length I bought two pairs. So I was feeling pretty good. I went to Barnes and Nobel got a Carmelmacchioto skinny no whip and read about Jamie Lynn Spears. Who apparently is defending her mom. And truth be told if your going to be a teen parent at least she can afford her kid.
So after my guilty tabloid pleasures i exited the mall where i was annoying behind a gentleman with BO and tattered clothing who was weaving and walking painfully slow. A cab was parked in the middle of the parking lot isle and i was trying to navigate around him and the parked cab. I made me move when he cut me off headed toward the cab muttered "bitch" not so subtly under his breath and spit at me...literally spit at me. Think Tailor Made on I Love New York 2. Fortunately his aim in spitting was about as good as his precise walking skills and he mostly missed me save a splatter on my new shoes.
Now I am all for giving people a pass. Someone speeds by me in the fast lane so be it maybe they have a family member in the hospital then need to reconcile with before their untimely death. I can rationalize that. Cutting me off in line at the gas station fine...maybe they are late for work. Moving out of your way to cut me off, call me a bitch and spit at me then moving back to get into a cab which is already causing me inconvenience...yeah unforgivable.
